My family moved to LFP in 1978 when I was 7 years old and about to start 2nd grade. Other than my college years, I've never left this place. My wife and I moved into our current home in 2002 and have put 6 kids through the Shoreline schools. To say LFP is a home for me is an understatement, it has had so much to do defining who we are.

Turmoil in federal politics and the cascading impacts that will have on our state, region, and city have inspired me to stand up to fight for my community. So much has changed since January 20th, and so much more is still to come. I believe now, more than any other time in our lives, it is important to know your neighbors, to build community with them, and to be there for each other in a world where federal disaster relief is no longer a certainty, during a time when masked unbadged "agents" may sweep through our city, in a place where the impacts of climate change will have profound impacts on our topography, our lives, and the tree canopy that is part of our identity.

In these moments I am inspired to say that making America great requires taxing the rich, taxing multi-national business, investing in a green & sustainable economy, growing a middle class, and building a social safety net that provides for all in our society. I may have little ability to impact these things at a local level, but I can put my energy into ensuring that we, the people of Lake Forest Park, are prepared for what may come and have the connections to care for each other when it does.

Education

1978 - 1980

Brookside Elementary

Bob Stokes was my 3rd grade teacher. He had a profound impact on me. I am thankful for him to this day.

1980 - 1983

Briarcrest Elementary

I loved the Salmon in the Schools program and Bob Boye helped me build my own hatchery, which I installed in Brookside Creek.

1983 - 1985

Kellogg Middle School

I tried (but did not excel at) wrestling, basketball, and cross-country. I have fond memories of Coach Wiley and Ms. Wilson.

1985 - 1989

Shorecrest High School

Shorecrest is where I found swim team, Model UN, Youth in Government, Boys State, and so much more. Most influential teacher: Mr. Morovich.

1989 - 1996

University of Washington

I spent 7 years at the UW studying political science, economics, and philosophy then attending the Law School.
